Cuttings Empty Cuttings

Mesaj Scris de Carmen Sam Mar 01, 2008 9:04 pm

Cuttings seems to be the only way to acquire hoya plants. At least in Romania this seems to be the only possibility, because there are just a few species to buy here (4 - 6 ).
So, after we discover Hoya, we keep order cuttings from all over the world.

If you have more experience with cuttings that we do ( we are begginers in growing hoyas ), please let us know some of the secrets of rooting Hoya.

Unfortunately, the cummingiana that I rooted doing this did well for a while, but has suffered due to the bad light and cold, and has now wilted Sad

Cuttings Empty How to not do it :)

Mesaj Scris de Hanna-Riikka Joi Ian 15, 2009 1:56 pm

I had to notice -as a beginner- unfortunately, that buying a normal plant soil is not how to do it. I have several cuttings that I try to root, but if it takes time, the soil becomes bad before the baby stem thrives... I know this is basic stuff, but I need to say this out loud and to share tongue This spring I need to learn to buy perlite and stuff rabbit

This is very true - the problem with ordinary soil is that it retains too much water, and thus, if you have a cutting with a small root system, it can leave the roots soggy and the cutting just dies. I had a few problems with mouldy soil, and in the end I had to change my fertilizer, which seems to have solved it.
This year I'm thinking about trying to add some orchid soil as well, just to help in aerating the soil.
