Getting new plants
I know it's way too early in the year at the moment, but I was wondering how people acquired new plants? For example, do people participate in Round Robins? I took part in one one year, but I discovered that one of the participants took all the cuttings for themselves - very selfish However, I'm keen to participate in one again.
I'm under the impression that some of you order from Pakeha, but is there ever an order to David Liddle? Every year it seems the Americans have one, but, as I've never been part of a European Hoya forum before, I've never seen one occur in Europe before.
Just trying to work out how I can supplement my collection - Ebay is good, but it's more fun sharing.

Re: Getting new plants
I'm on the same boat with Hilary. If you, Hilary, try sometimes to collect a group of people excahanging cuttings I'm on! It would be nice to meet personally hoya fans 'cause I feel a little bit alone. I travel a lot, because my fiance travels for work. This week end I'm in Paris...and I know there's a lot of collectors in Paris for example 0:)
Re: Getting new plants
I order from Paul Shirley at this moment but even Paul has limited amount of sorts.. And I believe, that stems cutted from plants in green houses are not so easy to grow indoors so suddenly.. Window to window is more reliable.
Hilary, can you tell us what is Round Robins?

Re: Getting new plants
OK, a Round Robin... Participants all say which plants they can offer as cuttings, and which plants they would like to receive. The organiser creates a list.
Then, for example, The organiser will then send a box of 5 cuttings to Person A. Person A will take 3 cuttings out and put 3 other cuttings in (not of the same plant) and send the box on to Person B. Person B will take out two cuttings and put two cuttings in and send to Person C. This goes on until it reaches the organiser once more. The point is, you only take out what you can replace and you try and replace with cuttings that the next participant would like (the organiser tries to match up wants and haves).
I hope you get the idea.
Hanna, if you're ever in London, you should come visit, so long as my plants make it through the winter

Yes, we have some orders to Pakeha..he is more close to us, and he is a member of this forum.
From David Liddle I didn`t order so far.
From USA the costs of the shipping are more expensive because it added a phytosanitary certificate and the time of traveling is too long somethimes, even a month..
We ussualy buy from ebay, from www.ebay.de or from tradera and we have some suppliers form Sweden too ( Rosita, Maggi, etc )...
Re: Getting new plants
Thanks for inviting Hilary, I most certainly will visit You when I come to GB. And Round Robin is clear like a chrystal
And thanks Stefana for suggesting good ideas, too bad I had so little time last week to make appointments... Definately next time. BD
I went through some flower shops and markets in Paris and I didn't see any Hoyas there... *don't-know*

Maybe it's too cold... Putting hoyas outside (the way I saw them) probably isn't a good idea in Paris at this time of year!
I hope I didn't waste your time - Paris' markets are beautiful anyway, and I hope you saw other interesting things.
Hills
P.S. Many of the hoyas travel well (I had an imperialis that waited several days to be collected, and it was fine). The way the organiser sets up the Round Robin, they try and make sure thin-leaved species don't have to travel for too long. There are occasionally some that don't make it, but the recipient then discards them (or tries to revive them).
